What is a mala? Well, the term ‘mala’ is a Sanskrit word for “meditation garland,” and malas have been used for 100s of years as an aide for practicing meditators. Working much like a Catholic rosary the mala is intended to be a physical aide for counting the recitation of mantras during meditation. Each mala features 108 stones a sacred number in both the Hindu religion and the practice of yoga.
